Forum

National organizing meeting of all Romanian anti-fracking activists

antifrack-fanfest-EN

This year at FanFest we plan to discuss various subjects, but all in strong connection to Rosia Montana and environmental protection. Fracking endangers the environment, the local communities and it destroys the possibility of a true sustainable development, in full respect for the local decision and consent.

The activists that bare the toughest battles in this field are calling on all of us to get involved:

”Friday, on the 15th of August, we will take a retrospective look to what has been done in this area, good or bad. Until now we fought our battles individually, but now its high time we coordinate our actions. Lets all meet at FanFest to identify and plan joint actions at national level. We expect all of you, as many as possible, with feasible ideas and, most of all, the belief that we can fight and win the war on fracking!” – Maria Olteanu, antifracking activist.

Friday, August 15th, starting with 19:30, the organizers of the FanFest festival are pleased to welcome this meeting on fracking and shale gas extraction to take place at the Forum Tent. Please join in!

DSC_0179-(99)Slackline

“  Slackline Timisoara” is the slackline community in the   western part of the country. We are a group of young people that love extreme sports, like alpinism, paragliding, skydiving, mountain-biking, juggling, snowboarding or roller-skating so it was easy to engage in other challenging sports such as slackline. Having this passion as the common thing and searching for adrenaline, it didn’t take long to build a great team that kept overcoming boundaries. At Fanfest, we aim for a more balanced world, more safe and eager to follow a straight LINE in society. Slacking is not easy, but not very difficult either, it just depends of your own desire to succeed. See you all in Rosia Montana

1176177_611528235554590_431408792_nParagliding

PGTandem, the team offering you paragliding at FanFest, promotes flights in harmony with nature. This is a unique experience that gives you a sense of freedom and brings you closer to nature.
What is paragliding? It is an aerial sport, practiced for over 20 years, that is becoming more and more popular nowadays. Similar to other aerial sports, the paraglide pilot also uses the ascending air streams to stay in the air, gain height and cover long distances. Usually, the pilot takes off from a mountain area, but it can lift on plain ground using the reel. Using wind and the ascending air streams, the paraglide can fly for several hours and cover hundreds of kilometers.
What is tandem flying?
It is a paraglide fly for two, one being the pilot and the other, the passenger. The tandem wing has a bigger capacity and has 2 seats. During the flight, the pilot stays in the back, maneuvering the wing and the passenger in the front side. The passenger doesn’t need special training, only some advices before the flight, this is why paragliding is a recreational sport.
Who is paragliding recommended to?
Tandem paragliding is recommended to everyone who wants to experience the pleasure of flying and didn’t have the chance of doing it by themselves. It can be a nice gift and a memorable moment. It is also suitable for the ones searching for adventure, relaxation or trying something new. The passengers with health problems, like heart diseases, acrophobia ( fear of heights) or obesity may fly, but they should let the pilot know about their affections, so he can take proper actions. Also, people with physical disabilities have the possibility to fly.
PG Tandem is promoting this sport only with great care for the surrounding environment.
Paragliding is not an extreme sport, it is a technical one, being really safe, but please check if paragliding is covered by your insurance policy. Even if you don’t have an insurance, you also may fly on your own responsibility.

277809_273352062766256_761067054_oThai Chi Chuan, Conscious Breathing, Reiki.

Conscious Breathing is a gentle, profound practice, specific to spiritual intelligence. It is a process that enables the body memory integration by clearing the stagnant energies and the blockages accumulated at the cellular level.
When we breathe, we release into the Universe the quality of the life we live: our anxieties, our wishes, our blocks, our sadness or unhappiness… The Conscious Breathing opens our interior space towards the profound healing of our being and, beyond this, leads us to spiritual awakening. It is both a psychological and a spiritual process that moulds itself to each and every one of us, and that bears the grace of the infinity.

Capoeira Angola
Capoeira is an alive and multidimensional art, that combines various types of human manifestation, of music, fighting, dancing, poetry, of theatre and many other in an unique configuration on community art. It is a school that can teach us a lot about what it means to live as a community, of how we can overcome interior and exterior conflicts by converting them into pure artistic expression through music when we sing it together. Cercul Intreg (The Full Circle) is a pioneer movement of traditional capoeira in Romania and has 5 years of activity and experience..

How do we see music? It’s a game and a dialogue. We invite anyone guided by this spirit no matter of the musical knowledge, to meet in the space called MUSIC.
Specific to the Cercul Intreg (The Full Circle) group, are two principles: we sit in circle, so we can see each other , so we can feel close one to another, to be complete, a living organism. To trust each other. To understand there is no mistake while respecting each other. Maybe it sounds strange in the beginning, but with trust and patience, it will sound great at the end.
The second principle is groove…The rhythm is the most important. Grooving makes us connect. The rhythm is the glue in a community based on music. Who respects the rhythm respects the spirit. And beyond this, we are free.
Everyone is invited to bring their own instruments,we’ll bring some too (most of them of percussion, ) some amplifiers to hear ourselves better, some flutes and many other.
So come on, get into the music game.

“an interpretation of poetry for people. I come with trinkets hanging from the cart to rattle on the paved streets about the tumult of life. I come with the ancient slums and today’s smugglers, with cleaning woman, with taxi drivers and whores, I come to dance, to rotate my skirts, to sing and bewitch the ears and the soul. I come because I love the streets, the simple things that we continously burry under piles of rubble. I come with scandal, I come with anger, I come with joy, I come with passion. because the street belongs to everyone and not only to poets. for the common people, because I am a common person. I live, my life is like the slum, with joy, with good and bad things, with health, with weddings, with funerals, with diseases, with passion, with or without money. we’re human but nobody are interested in this. I come as a Romanian, as a Gypsy, as a young one, as a old one, as a woman, as a man, red wine. I come with SlumBlues to say that life is golden ”

Titanic Fals aims to rehabilitate the parody genre (thought often minor), after the so called “Jazz Standards” model – reinterpreting in personal key (sometimes sarcastically, sometimes with fondness, curiosity or the simple joy of rewriting) various literary trodden territory, canonized or stucked in cliché.

Iv the Naive
For several years, Iv the Naive twisted the minds of people sensitive to wisdom disguised in naivety and does not give them any clue about who he is or where he comes from. Iv writes with serendipity, with warm letters, with high doses of emotion called syllables. Iv writes naturally, playful, serious, honest, with love, outraged, sad, grateful, old or child. Iv write about cats, former sperm cells, about fools rush in, puddles and rhinos, sky, society and love.
Come to FânFest as to experience Iv in a other way.

Grecu Cristian
One of the nicest things is to read, write and tell interesting stories to our friends and family. Some ideas which may seem difficult to us, could be understood if we use our imagination. One of our big questions is man’s relationship with nature that surrounds us. I invite you to go for a few moments in the minds of beloved animals and see what they see with their eyes.

Maria Rus
“Rosia Montana, un paradis pierdut” ( Rosia Montana, the lost Eden) by Maria Rus presents the author’s memoirs about the people and places among which she lived, before passing away. During the event, Traian Rus, the author’s husband, will read excerpts and and tell us more about the story behind the novel.
The novel depicts a society built along the centuries, a multicultural and ethnic one, consolidated by the coexistence of a brotherhood of the subterranean in a perfect osmosis with the people.
Thus reality is described in the context of myths and legends about supernatural forces, like the spirits of the valley and of the lakes.
It is also a chronicle of the lives of private miners until the state nationalization from 1948 and takes a stand against the ones who depleted of gold the region and its locals during history, starting with Romans’ times until now.

In a society under the reformed ‘Real-Time’ Calendar, without history nor future, everybody is faceless. A woman panics when she wakes up one day with a face. With the help of the Spectral Children she slowly finds out more about the lost power and history of the human face and begins the search for its future. RealTime orients the life of every citizen. Eating, resting, going to work, getting married – every act is tied to RealTime. And every act leaves a trace of data – a footprint in the snow of noise…

frackFrack Democracy, Director: Lech Kowalski, Polonia, 2014, 34′
Shale gas is no longer a ‘what if’ in Europe. Exploration is underway in several European countries, with huge areas designated for potential fracking.
Lech Kowalski’s film looks at the reality of unconventional gas exploration in three communities – in Zurawlow, Poland; in Balcombe, UK; and in Pungesti, Romania. When multinational companies impose their agenda on citizens, democracy is called into question and often media does not report any opposition to fracking activities.
This film portrays the realities on the ground and tells the story of extreme energy extraction in Europe from the people who stand to lose the most.

The Assassin’s Trail, Producer: Rise Projects, Romania, 40′
”The Assassin’s Trail” follows journalists from the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project/RISE Project as they investigate the brutal and high-stakes world of assassins, their masters and their victims. While investigating the case of one alleged assassin, the film uncovers a transnational underworld where government officials, billions in stolen money and murderers-for-hire meet.

Guided Tours at FânFest 2014

DSC_0389

Roşia Montană is currently the most famous village in Romania. We have all heard about it, but a few sentences are not enough to cover the complexity of the subject. The 2000 year old history of the place, its unique rural-urban combination, the famous Roman galleries, the outstanding natural landscapes, the villages with inhabitants determined to protect their land and identity – these are just a few of the reasons why so many people appreciate this place, first attested on 6 February 131, from the British specialists who support its listing in the UNESCO heritage to the thousands of Romanians who took to the streets for several months.

If you want to deeply understand the Roşia Montană phenomenon we recommend you to book the one week accommodation package and to participate in the guided tours every day. Our volunteers will be glad to take you to pathways and places where no internet presentation or weekend trip will take you.

The Save Rosia Montana campaign brings together every year at FanFest, activists from across the country and abroad, driven by a desire to share experiences, collaborate and discuss about problems facing, in order to find common solutions and strategies. Now at his third edition, the Forum has played a key role in the Festival as a platform for numerous workshops, plenaries, and a meeting point for working groups.
The Romanian Autumn has shown a strong mobilization of thousands of concerned citizens around the country, ready to act for a true democracy, for Rosia Montana. The euphoria of those days has tempered, but the experiences that brought so many people together continue to be very vivid. Moreso, the need for discussion, exchange of experiences and ideas became clearer in the context of the new social movements that were born.
The forum is designed around 5 main themes, elaborated in more than 30 workshops and plenaries:
– Ban cyanide & mining,
– Campaigns and social movements,
– Citizen journalism,
– Heritage conservation and alternatives for sustainable development
– Campaigning boot-camp.

The topics addressed aim to create a space for dialogue where social and environmental activists in Romania and Europe interactively present solutions, critical visions and calls to action for the citizens that want to take an active role in their communities.
In addition a meeting of Rosia Montana volunteers from around Europe and the world, the Diaspora Forum – will underline the importance of the protest movements last autumn, aiming to set new global projects in motion promoting a clean environment, human rights and active citizen participation.

FânFest 2014 Exhibitions

DSC_0123-(2)

FanFest 2014 Exhibitions will be divided into three major themes that can also be recognized in the structure of other sections (Forum), and they target issues that concern us all year long.

The heritage of Rosia Montana will be found in at least two exhibitions this year, dedicating both a retrospective of the work of our partners who for years focusing on preservation, revitalization and the valorization of Rosia Montana in terms of its cultural and historical value. Projects like Adopts a House, RoşiaMontană360 or the summer schools organized by ARA for young specialists who study architectural and historical testimonies of Rosia Montana – will be on the list of the Heritage section. The exhibitions will be accompanied by debates focusing on the good news 2014 brought for the heritage of Rosia Montana.

Romanian Autumn – has already become a symbol of the events of 2013 – is a subject that could not miss from the Exhibition section. One of the largest street movements in Romania’s recent history has already spawned a series of exhibitions at home and abroad. The largest such event was STRADA E A NOASTRA (THE STREET IS OURS) – an exhibition-event organized in Bucharest by United we Save the movement born in the midst of the protests for Rosia Montana. The exhibition and the stories come to FanFest to tell in detail how he struggled with the “outlaw” in Bucharest.

Also from the series of exhibitions dedicated to the 2013 protests is the part dedicated and organized by Romanian Diaspora, who reinvented solidarity and made invisible bridges across borders. Those from overseas countries who were beside us every moment will come to FanFest to tell us how it was and how it will be further more in the future.

We are proud to have talented and well preocupied partners and collaborators – we dedicate them part of the exhibitions Section in 2014: photography, creative media, activism, and other surprises await you this year. Watch our website for full list and detailed program of inaugurations and debates!
